COSMOS Natural and COSMOS Organic are certification standards for natural and organic cosmetics, designed to ensure products meet high standards of quality, sustainability, and safety. Here's what each certification entails:

COSMOS Natural certification guarantees that the product is made from natural ingredients. The main criteria include:

  • Natural Origin: Ingredients must come from natural sources like plants, minerals, or other natural substances.

  • Processing Methods: Limited use of processes that alter the natural state of ingredients, such as physical processes (e.g., drying, pressing) and simple chemical processes (e.g., hydrolysis).

  • Environmental Considerations: Ensures environmentally friendly practices throughout the product's life cycle, including biodegradability and sustainable sourcing.

  • Packaging: Preference for recyclable and environmentally friendly packaging materials.

COSMOS Organic certification includes all COSMOS Natural requirements, with additional standards for organic content:

  • Organic Content: At least 95% of the agro-ingredients must be organically produced. Overall, the product must contain a minimum of 20% organic ingredients (10% for rinse-off products).

  • Certified Ingredients: Ingredients must comply with recognized organic farming standards.

  • Production Standards: Strict guidelines for maintaining the organic integrity of ingredients during production, processing, and storage.

  • No GMOs: Prohibition of genetically modified organisms in any form.

Both certifications require products to adhere to rigorous safety, efficacy, and transparency standards, ensuring consumers receive high-quality, trustworthy natural and organic cosmetics. Products with these certifications display the words "COSMOS Natural" or "COSMOS Organic" below the certifier's logo, indicating compliance with the COSMOS standard.
